Heatwole's Local Vision - Martinsburg, Berkeley County WV
At the risk of sounding like I am running for Mayor (which I definitely will not) here is what I promise to do if I receive the support I am looking for via "This Artist's Dream - 1 Million Dollar Reality Check campaign" which you can find out about in the store link above.
GET YOUR MILLION DOLLAR CHECK FROM ME TODAY!!! So I can get to work on all of this!

· Improve our community’s competitive edge;
· Create a foundation for defining a strong sense of place; · Attract new and visiting populations; · Integrate the visions of community and business leaders; · Contribute to the development of a skilled workforce; · Serve as a major economic engine for Eastern Panhandle, Martinsburg and West Virginia (see State Plan). |
Mission: I will make Martinsburg a place where artists come from around the world to work and to play while also making it a tourist destination for the arts and more. To inspire the business owners, property owners, and citizens living and/or working in or around the historic district of Martinsburg WV to adopt the notion: That art and creativity inspires, nurtures and breathes life into a community. To encourage and invite hand selected artists from around the world to travel here to stay and to work for a time in our fair city to carry out artistic mission work as is directed and organized with Arts Ambassadors International and the local office of the West Virginia Arts Ambassador.
Problem: Neither the City of Martinsburg, nor Berkeley County of West Virginia currently have a major draw for tourism. At the present time it is not a real destination for anything. There isn't enough interest to capitalize on something with historical significance, nor are there major naturally formed sites of interest. There are specialty events, but there are not enough things for people to do in between these annual events. There are a few specialty stores and a few interesting locations that can be promoted, but not really enough on their own to make the town or county a major destination for the spending public who might be looking for a weekend or day trip getaway.
Solution: Capitalize on the arts, and making the arts more accessible to the local community and to the visiting public. Make a place that is worthy of tourism by re-envisioning what the area is about and what it can offer. The following is only geared toward promoting the arts, and recreating or adding to public spaces. Obviously there is a need for other types of business including quality restaurants, and specialty shops but this should be encouraged by each political governing body as well as main street organizations and CVB officials. They should be encouraging business, and this re-envisioning by investing financially, emotionally and by getting personally involved in making the community successful. Encouraging those who have positive ideas for community development.
