This morning i visited this company in North Carolina and received a sample of their non food grade plastic pellets used in manufacturing but i discovered that they helped with an art project out west where their other plant is located. Very interesting how they produce their food grade recycled plastics. They are the only company in the U.S. to produce this type of recycled plastic product. Now i travel to Greensboro NC.
While travling to NH for a delivery pickup with OISK trucking I had no real direction of where to go with my art mission. I just let this unscene spirit tell me when and where to look. I turned my head to the right at the right time to see a sign for an arts district just a few exits before the exit where i would need to be dropped off. This time it was in Worchester Massachusetts. With lightning speed I surfed the web and what was happening in that area. There it was, the AHA moment when i saw the description for the Child Warrior exhibition at the Worchester Art Museum. Three exits later i was dropped off on the side of the highway at the closest exit to the museum. Armed with my easil, canvas, backpack with computer, Ugandan Flag and literarure, another fabric grocery bag flung over my other shoulder with artified gasmask and other props i was off determined to see the show and discover what else this city had to offer. Once off the highway I immediately tuned into the fact that every street sign featured a red heart on them. I found the museum but saw i had just over two hours before their doors opened. So i went hiking into town weighted down by all of my stuff. The first thing i discovered was an amazing church that is sitting empty. I was at the back of the church when i saw a sign that said "Home of M.E. Dream Center" or something close to that. I had to learn more because...well...I have a dream! I discovered a most amazing piece of architecture wasting away. I stood there dreaming of being there, working from this location as the 1st U.S. Arts Ambassador with a full supporting staff. As you can see in the photo below, I soon came to discover in city hall that the heart symbol for love was cherished. The below photo is of the entry way floor to city hall. The heart was everywhere. So you could say that this journey to Massachusetts began with love. From the empty church once filled with praise, and worship to the symbolism of God's love was ever present even though it wasnt a cross. The next sign from God to me following this love symbol was also made in city hall. In a showcase just beyond the entryway was the all too common smiley face, actually lots of them. Worchester was where smiley had been invented. Here i was unarmed with the Smiles for Miles sign i have carried for so many miles, in the town where once resided an artist that designed smiley. America is home to much symbolism and it comes in a variety of artistic styles. Today and every day we are blessed by God. He wants us to rely on him. He will do whatever he needs to connect with us. He may have a job, a task for each of us but ultimately it is imparative that we recognize him, his handiwork and offer him our praise, thanksgiving and worship. And to be ready to serve him even if his calling is beyond our comfort zone. Next, after hiking around town trying to locate art galleries that were non existant in the historical district i Next to the war memorial was a very interesting building that once was used as a technical school. It looked to be part of the monument but was not it was just another great piece of architectural history wasting away. After spending some time at this World War monument i found my way back to the museum. The first exhibit to impress me was a series of beautiful mosaics from a couple excavated buildings in Antioch. I then quickly made a b-line to the 4th floor to see more modern contemporary art then i would let gravity help me through the museum. I saw so many great masterpieces from America and Europe. The Samari exhibit was fun and mysterious. It featured both anchant samari artifacts and modern day art inspired by the samari history. I then made it to the last exhibits on my agenda. In order to get to the Child Soldiers one has to meander through the Knights Exhibition. But it was in the Knights exhibit where one could see amazing weaponry and armor. The symbolism of being led through this amazing exhibition in order to reach the Child Warriors was to me a sign of exhibitions and curatorial genius. Thanks to God and Oleg, the owner of the truck shown below my message and art is traveling the highways, byways and other smaller roads. The message is clear "Pay The Arts Forward - Support the vision of artist David F. Heatwole" Making Art Make A Difference. After installing the art I started traveling with my friend up and down the east coast. The purpose is to meet the American people one individual, one art gallery and whatever way God puts before me. Armed with props for photo opportunities I am weighed down to the max. Being dropped off at truck stops and having to find ways to hike into the cities is a challenge so I am reaching out to my facebook friends first to ask if they know anyone in the regions where I will be to help me and to lend me their ears. I can only pray that people will rise to the occasion and be able to hear my message.
I was in New York yesterday, primarily Buffalo but my trip started off with a photo opp at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery. I picked this small somewhat out of the way gallery because of the symbolism of the name. WAY TO GO TO THE OWNER! Unfortunately, yesterday was Monday and well galleries usually don't operate on Mondays. Oh well. Then I had an adventure getting into the heart of Buffalo with a song (Buffalo soldier) on my lips, a skip to my step and probably even a swagger to my hips (my back and shoulder were hurting so bad because of all I was carrying. "Keep it simple stupid" - yeah I wish! Anyway, last night we rolled into MD and I picked up a car and ran home for a few hours and shared stories with my 5 children and then actually had lunch with my beautiful wife while Oleg made his delivery to PA. He is swinging by in a little while and away we go to Richmond! A great city!!! See ya! If you know anyone that might be interested in hearing what I have to share have them give me a call at 304)283-1902 I am my own marketing manager, secretary and all for on this campaign so I will try to respond to their call (or yours if you like!) at 304)283-1902.
